My mom and I went to my ultrasound appointment today.
I got in early, and had warm gel smeared all over my belly.
The ultrasound tech took a bunch of measurements, and said everything looked good, the right sizes and shapes. She tried several times to get a look between the legs, but baby was sitting crosslegged for a while, not giving a good view. Then she put her legs straight out, crossed at the ankle, still no view. Finally she moved so that we could see a smooth pelvic bone without any boy parts there!
She was really moving around a lot (I’ve been feeling her move over the past few weeks), and it was fun to watch, and see her little heart beat.

Here’s a few pics that I got to take home!

I’ll prolly put up more later, but I’m kinda tired right now.

So exciting!

My Mama spent the night last night, and we got up early in the am to go to my first midwife appointment.

After the oh-so-lovely exam, she used a doppler to try to hear the baby’s heartbeat.
We got to hear just a couple little heartbeats, but baby was hiding behind my vein, so it was hard to hear. The midwife graciously offered to do a trans-vaginal ultrasound since I’m so early on, it usually has better results.
It was so cool to see the umbilical cord twitching, and the little heart (which is already fully formed) thumping away…!
Baby rolled over while we were watching too!

Luckily I got to take some pictures home, and I already e-mailed them to J.

Here they are!

This appointment went well.
It was mostly paperwork, then they took 7 vials of blood for different tests.

My mom drove down this morning, and came with me. I drove to base, because I figured they’d give less of a hassle if the military wife was driving. I felt sick on the way down, but was able to not throw up until after we got off I-5 (so I pulled over right outside the gate). My first morning sickness experience! Yay… or not.
Pulled up to the gate after cleaning myself up, and they said I had to go get a parking pass (didn’t happen last time), so we got the pass and still got to the appointment early. Paperwork in the waiting room, then more paperwork and questions at the appointment. I got signed up for my next few appointments, and it sounds like I should have an ultrasound sometime in May! It sounds like they have good midwife options, so I’m excited to get to meet a midwife at my appointment on March 5th!
I had a much better phlebotomist this time, and she still had to take from two different spots, but at least she listened to me, and got the blood without too much hassle.
I’m feeling a bit better, trying to get more food in me, and stay hydrated.

That’s all for now.

Well, today is the first day that I’m starting to notice food aversions.
My gramma took me to a buffet, and as I walked by the breakfast area, I smelled maple syrup (which I usually like), and got grossed out. I also put a few black olives on the side of my salad, but when I ate one, it tasted nasty. There was nothing wrong with it, but it just didn’t taste good to me (I used to eat them by the dozens).

Also, nipples. My tits have been sore when I wake up every morning, but I noticed last night that my nipples have been super hard lately, and last night I actually had trouble getting to sleep because my right one hurt. It was like, it was hard to begin with, then when I changed for bed (or couch, since I stayed at Gramma’s), it got cold, and hurt because it was trying to get harder. Just the right one, my left has always been a little shy, so it’s not been quite as hard. Weird stuff.

Anywho, I picked up a bunch of saltines in case my tummy decides to not be happy (it felt a tiny bit upset after eating today), since I’m about at that point. So far, apples are my bestest friends. Yum yum! Also, sleep is good. Zzz…

That’s all for now, it’s hard to type from under three blankets and two kitties.

So I went to Madigan Army hospital yesterday, because I took three home pregnancy tests and they all came back positive, but the military needs me to do their test before I can see an OBGYN.

I first went to the registration office, because I was told that I needed to register before I could have anything done.
I waited there for about 30-45 mins because even though it was a small office, and I took a number, there was only one clerk, and uniformed active duty has priority, and they just kept coming.
Once I finally got my turn, she told me I was already in the system, and asked what I needed. I told her I needed to do a pregnancy test, so she directed me to the Family Care Center, said I had to talk to them first. I waited there for another 10 mins, then they said, no, I had to go to the blue team area for a walk-in pregnancy test appt.
I waited in the blue team waiting room for about 10 mins, then got called back to talk to someone, she asked me a few questions, then sent me to the lab.
I’d like to mention at this point, that I’d been holding pee for a while, because I didn’t want to have to guzzle water to be able to pee for the test. I got to the lab and was helped right away. I was told to go to station 13. I find station 13, and see that it’s set up for a blood draw. I think my bladder cried baby tears. I should have known.
So the guy who was there to stab me was very friendly, but I think he must have been new, or just dumb. I’ve given blood lots of times, so I know it’s usually my right elbow-pit that gives the best. I tell him this, he looks at it, then starts poking my left elbow-pit, digging the needle around, moving it in and out trying to find the vein. I was being a good sport, making idle conversation, but I was a little annoyed. He then decides that’s not going to give, so he wraps it up, and goes for the back of my right HAND.
I’d seen people do this before, but never had it done to me, so I figured I’d play along and see if it gave better than my arm (I do have large veins in my hands). He says “you know this will hurt a bit”, and I just laugh, thinking of all the times I’ve been poked with needles, and knowing it’s not that bad. As I watch him stick it in though, I realize it’s much more painful than the arm. Ouch. So he digs around there for a while, and gets a tiny bit, but not even enough to get through the tube to the canister. I notice that blood is starting to well up around the vein, and the area is swelling. He gives up and says he’s gonna call someone else to do it. I tell him that’s probably a good idea.
He wraps my throbbing hand, and calls someone over. She looks at my right elbow-pit, exactly where I told him to do it in the first place, and sticks it in and gets blood within 2 seconds. No fishing around for a vein.
I hate being rude, but I’m never letting that guy take my blood again.
My hand still hurts, but at least it doesn’t look swollen anymore. And I have a cool bruise…
Super grawr.

I called for the results a few minutes ago, and they confirmed, my eggo is preggo!
My first OBGYN appointment is February 10th, and hopefully I can find out what midwifery options there are, and get a due date (it’s prolly gonna be late Sept, or early Oct).

I’m gonna be a Mama!
